I Love You.

I love you. I do. I might not know you personally, but that doesn’t matter. I love you regardless. Why and how can I say that? Because, when I’m honest with myself, I know it’s true that each and every person on this planet has a beautiful, inherent worth.

Whether they believe that or not is secondary.

What is primary is that each and every one of us is wired to champion a story that is beautiful, unique, significant, positive. It’s irrefutably true. And if I choose to believe this, then it’s easy to take the next step into realizing there’s no reason for me not to love you. Warts, past, promise and all. Because you – like me – have failed, succeeded, tripped over or swallowed whole one too many lies… and yet, we’re still wired to be amazing, today, now. And I’d love to see your story flourish, and mine flourish right alongside – even, especially, against all odds. I’d love to live in a world where we bravely, intentionally, sometimes blindly love each other out of doubt and damage and into that place.

So I’ll say it again. I love you. And I’d love for you to love me back. Along with oh, about, 7.125 billion other people.

Just you and me to start. We can tune out the fear rhetoric and nay-saying… and we can seek the good, find it, believe in it, cultivate it. We can be musketeers, harbingers for second, third, fourth chances (because, come on, we all could use that in return, no?).

And we can remember that hurt people hurt people. And loving, praying for those who hurt is a tough thing to do, I get it. And I’ll get it wrong. But possibly the best thing I can do with my life is to love those who’ve given up all hope of being loved. Those who have done that for me are my most prized blessings on this earth.

I’ve had my fill of fear. And so I wonder: What would the world look like if everyone dreamed big and believed in his/her story? What would the world look like if we loved into being the stories of everyone around us?

I start with you and me. You in?
